Almost Frozen & Temps Dropping!

Drooping Daffs ...
I went out this afternoon to cut the almost blooming early red tulips and did a little yard tour.  First I encountered the big drooping daffodils in the front yard.  It's hard to tell, but only 1 bloom could be saved, the rest were frozen & iced over. The forsythia bushes had been frozen and had turned an orange/yellow color ...
Frosted Forsythias ...
The red tulips around the outhouse looked good, so anything close to blooming was cut to bring inside!

Tulips Starting To Open On Windowsill ...
Finally, the rhubarb bed that is used for natural dyeing had a bit of snow, but the hardy leaves shrugged off the cold so far.  Hard to believe, but after dipping into the teens tonight, the long range forecast is calling for temps in the 70's next Saturday ... ahhhh, Spring!

Winter Colorways!

Colors In Nature
I don't have a dyebath going right now, but the nature study above could be an inspiration ......
And speaking of inspiration, it looks like the daffodils are starting to emerge in the flower beds.
Coming back from the walk in the woods yesterday, we spotted the old fashioned double daffodils on the "Todd property" poking up near the old barn foundation area.  Will this be the year that I finally dig a clump & bring it over to a spot near the house?????  Been saying that I'm going to do it for years .....

Easter at Wild Rose Farm

It was sunny & overcast on Easter Day.   The weather was cooler than it had been on Friday & Saturday.  The ewes are in full fleeece right now and there really isn't any shade this early in the spring.  We don't like it when it gets up into the 80's at this time of year.  Shearing is coming up in the next week or so .....  the ewes are looking a little "ratty" around their belly & neck.  They'll be happy to get rid of all of that wool ..... and I know some people who can't wait to get their hands on it too!  :)
Now a picture of some of our daffodils .... We have about a dozen varieties of narcissus ..... I love them and we need to get more to do some naturalizing!
