Check Out The Background!

Grazing Ewes, But Look Closely In The Upper Right!
We walked over to look at the progress of the new doors on the Loafing Shed and then went around to look at the sheep.  The ewes started to follow us as I was taking a few "Wild Rose Farm" pictures.  Then we noticed hen turkeys foraging in the background!  They are around enough when the work has been going on, so they didn't immediately scatter when they saw us.
Here they are below the water tank .......... click to enlarge on both pictures.
Hen Turkeys Scratching Along .....
They didn't have any young birds from the spring hatch with them, so maybe there are other groups around & maybe those hens are more cautious .......

Wild Rose Farm Wild Turkey Trot!

Wild Turkeys in Pasture
We looked out the other morning around 7:30AM to see this small flock of turkeys in the paddock below the lower driveway.  We're not sure what they were up to, but they headed up the driveway to the barn.

They milled around in front of the barn for a few minutes and then turned back down the driveway the way they came ......

Beavers In Beaver County?

Beaver Lodge Near Wild Rose Farm
A close relative, who shall remain un-named, once said, "there are no beavers in Beaver County!".  Well, we know better around here.  A couple of years ago, there was a roadkilled beaver out in front of our property.  We took it for a beaver heading to new territory ..... and he never quite made it!
Mr. Wild Rose Farm was out hunting the other night and had to pass around these newly discovered beaver dams a couple of properties down stream from our place, so he went and got some pictures.

Beaver Work In Progress
These dams weren't here 2 years ago, so they've done a bit of work fairly recently.  They're called busy beavers for a reason .........
Bark Stripped Off .....
Also seen walking off was this flock of wild turkeys.  Stay tuned to our next post for more on the local turkey flock ..... really local, you'll see!

Lucky Turkeys Post Thanksgiving!

Wild Rose Farm Wild Turkeys
This group of turkeys hadn't been seen for the last week or so around Wild Rose Farm.  Do you suspect that they were hiding out?  I guess it's safe to come out now ....
To take a picture, you have to sort of sneak up on them, so I went behind around the driveway and then used the barn to block my approach.
Turkeys Moving Off Downhill
Of course, the lambs had to behave stupidly & the turkeys started to move off over the hillside once they saw motion.  Look at Lisa's ears ..... the goofy lambs even annoyed her!

Trail Camera Wildlife

Deer .......
How about a photo essay from a trail camera set up just outside of a pasture field?  We've seen does with fawns inside the high tensile fence at Wild Rose Farm, now here's a look at the traffic outside of the fence.
Believe me, you have to look carefully to see things when there are 1489 pictures to go through!
Squirrel!
Buck ....
The clump of goldenrod in the foreground waving in the wind was probably responsible for 1419 of the pictures ............

Wild Rose Farm is For the Birds .....

Something moved and caught my attention in the morning sun.   As soon as this wild hen turkey saw me move, she flapped and took off over the fence ...... amazing how far they can glide once they're airborn!

Wild Rose Farm Turkeys

Happy Thanksgiving! Here are some wild turkeys in the early morning rain & drizzle. They scratch over the areas where the round bales of hay & the feeders have been set out for the sheep. The turkeys pick out dropped grain, seeds, and insects that they find under the hay and leaves. We never know what we'll see when we look out around here ..... last weekend an 8 point buck was sticking close to a doe in our front pasture. Both of them ignored the ram.
