Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest Wrap Up

Very Cool Sheep Signs!
Finally, a report from the Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest LAST weekend! Have I told you about the sheep signs before on this blog? They are sponsored by businesses and gather contest votes for favorite sign prior to the festival. Prizes are awarded, but that's not my area so I'm not up on the details, lol! They all have a little dry erase board on them and they're used all over the festival for directional signage.
Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest - Fleece To Shawl Contest
The Fleece to Shawl Contest had 3 teams entered for the competition on Saturday.  Each team has a different theme and you can see the results above. The Loyalhanna Guild has a sea theme and here they are at work!

There were also a lot of entries this year in the fiber arts contest and here are a few in pictures from the hand-spun skeins category.

Overall, the weather was good - no rain to speak of until about 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, and then it cleared up as the vendors were packing to leave.  Even the sheep signs weren't having any trouble with the weather and the alpacas were working the crowds!

Lippencott Alpacas Visit The Vendors ...

More pictures in the next post ... after a week of t-storms and lambing chores here at home, it's off to the Great Lakes Sheep & Wool Show in Wooster, Ohio tomorrow.  We have Rambouillet wool to drop off with Zeilinger Wool to be made into our Wild Rose Farm combed top ... just spent most of the day in the barn skirting fleeces.

In Other News ...

Dusk Cell Phone Pic Of Nothing Happening!
We moved the ewes last night so that they are now grazing close to the barn. The waiting continues at Wild Rose Farm ... nothing as of this morning.
Yesterday our Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival committee had our "walk-thru" meeting at the fairgrounds. Building #8 has been renovated & expanded, so that called for me to whip out the 100' tape measure and get updated dimensions. Next comes a new booth layout map ... the fun never ends!
Lena With Felted Flower Purse From 2015 WS&FF
The building looks so empty without the vendors, but Lena from Lippencott Alpacas decided to show off a felted flower purse that she got last year from long time returning vendor River Ridge Fiberworks. That's the 2016 festival t-shirt tucked under her arm ... sneak preview below:

The featured art sheep are Katahdins from one of the Breed Pavilion flocks at their home farm.  We're less than a month away from the festival now!

Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest Animals!

Here are a couple of the animals that were at the Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest.  We were too late to get pictures of the Angora bunnies at the Sheep Thrills booth ..... they were sold before we got around to taking pictures!
Lippencott Alpacas - Just Sheared!
We got there just in time to see the shearing demonstration on this alpaca that Lena Galing is leading back to his pen.  The topknot is left on to shield the alpaca's eyes from the sun - sort of like a baseball cap - says Phil Galing of Lippencott Alpacas as he commented to the crowd during the demo.

2012 Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest Shaping Up!

2011 Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest Shoppers
The applications have been coming in and the 2012 Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival is coming together for our 9th year.  The festival web-site should have a partial list of the 2012 vendors up soon.  The deadline is this week on March 15th, so the rush of mail is still to come!  Please get in contact if you're considering becoming a vendor!  This will be the first year that the festival is offering some fiber classes.  We'll have a great beginning spindle spinning class and beginners knit & crochet classes.    This year the festival is on Saturday May 19th & Sunday May 20th at the Greene County Fairground in Waynesburg, PA.  See you there!

Fiber Festival Crowd!

Lippencott Alpacas On Parade!
What would a fiber festival be if it didn't feature fiber animals?  This weekend at the  Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Fest, we saw all kinds of fiber animals.  Most were sheep, but here we feature shots of nicely groomed attendees .......
