A Trip To Wooster!

Seen At The Great Lakes Fiber Show!
Last Saturday, we took a trip out to the Great Lakes Fiber Show to a visitor, not a vendor!  The show was really busy and the weather was cool which makes for a good fiber day.  Here is one of my favorite booths ....... I just loved the felted lamp shades.  What a great idea.

Sweet Heart Suri Alpacas had some very nice yarn too, but the lampshades really caught my eye!

A Couple of Cool & Sunny Days!

Wild Rose Farm Yearling Rambouillet Rams Out & About!
The rams above were delighted to be out on pasture!  After evenings of thunder showers for the last week, Memorial Day weekend turned out to be sunny, but cool here.  There were hard frosts again late last week overnight, so all of the local gardens were covered up.  We had 2 more ewes lamb last week and we completed a round of booster shots for the 2nd batch of lambs ....
Wild Rose Farm Lambs Booster Shots Done
As we sort them off and give them their shots, we freshen up their paint number, & drop them in a lambing pen so they don't get pushed around, but the ewes can still see them ....

Ram Lamb Thinks .... You Want Me To Go Out Now???
Then it was out to pasture to join the 1st group of ewes & lambs ...... herding lambs for the first time is like herding cats.   It's just soooo lamby confusing!

Fleeces For Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival

WRF Rambouillet #329 - Crimpy Rambouillet Fleece
I'll be heading down to Waynesburg tomorrow to get the vendor booths measured & taped off for the festival on Saturday & Sunday.  Vendor set up is from 4 to 8 PM on Friday and 7 to 9:45 AM on Saturday.  It looks like the weather will cooperate with maybe a few showers Saturday afternoon.
The ever popular WRF Ewe #329 sheared another great crimpy fleece this year & it will be for sale.
She is out of our old Schafer ram from Colorado.
Another Rambouillet fleece below is coming to the festival from WRF Ewe #415.  She is a daughter of our performance tested New York ram.   We always like to bring several fleeces for the handspinners who come to the festival ..... some folks just like to process the fleece themselves all the way through spinning & dyeing the yarn, & knitting the garment!

Wild Rose Farm Out To Pasture

Wild Rose Farm Portrait - #34 Dot Ewe Lamb
We gave our 2nd batch of lambs their booster shots today and then turned them out to pasture with the 1st group.  Here's one of the twins from x-bred #34 - we tag the ewe lambs in the left ear & tag the ram lambs in the right ear.  If she stays in the flock, she'll get her permanent flock tag in her right ear.  Her paint number looks like it's camo in this shot! :)

Wild Rose Farm Rambouillet #415 With Twins
For the Rambouillet watchers in the crowd, here's # 415 with her twins - one of each.  The weather was warm today - it got up to about 80 degrees .......
Tomorrow, is "fleece day".  I'll be skirting fleeces for the Waynesburg Sheep & Fiber Festival/ and I'll put up some pictures!   Hopefully the weather will be nice for the weekend.

Working With The Lambs .....

Wild Rose Farm - 1st Batch of Lambs
Just a quick post tonight .... we gathered this group of ewes & lambs up and gave the lambs their booster shots.  They had been tagged & docked last week.  It's amazing how big some of them are already at 2 weeks old.  Also amazing how fast the lambs are when you try to grab them!  :)

Enjoying The Sunshine!

Wild Rose Farm Ewes & Lambs Out For The 1st Time!
The sun was so bright yesterday it was almost blinding for the camera ..... we have to allow the sheep to get back into the barn for shade, if needed.  It was in the high 50's, so the ewes & lambs were comfortable.
Ths lambs are swimming in a sea of grass, but the small paddock means that they won't get lost.  Of course, with all of the bleating, you'd never know that.  The ewes are so busy munching that they ignore the lambs for a little while.  Then they suddenly become concerned about what happened to "baby" and the ewes start calling their lambs ...... eventually, they all settle down.
Wild Rose Farm Rambouillet Ewe Lamb
Here's Little Miss Tag # 0360 and that's not Mom behind her.  She was the 1st lamb of the year out of WRF Rambouillet #407.  My, how she's grown!

"U" With Two!

Wild Rose Farm "U" With Twins!
Saturday afternoon, WRF "U" presented us with a set of twins - one ewe lamb & one ram lamb.  You can see that her dark color has faded over the last 2 years.  These lambs are 50/50 Dorset x Rambouillet crosses.  Dam & lambs are doing just fine ......

Leap'in Lambies!

Wild Rose Farm - Lambs Leaping!
If you've been following farm blogs lately, you've seen the lambs jumping & twisting.  Not to be outdone, the Wild Rose Farm lambs in the "mixing pen" got in the spirit and started running in a pack tonight.  It's always good for a laugh & just as soon as they get started, they'll abruptly stop and rest.
Wild Rose Farm Ewe #37 - Just Checking!
On the barn check tonight, we got this picture of WRF #37 checking to make sure that the lamb on the right is one of her twins.  She already checked "37 dot" and then she swings over to sniff the ram lamb.  When lambs come in to nurse, the ewes always give a sniff to make sure it's their own lamb trying to nurse. If not, she kicks it off and walks away .......
WRF x-bred ewe #34 had a set of twins this afternoon - last year she had triplets and she's in really good shape.
